About
At the age of 12, Leddra Chapman picked up an acoustic guitar for the first time, sat down and began to write her first song. Since that day the young singer-songwriter has never looked back. Realising she had a powerful knack of capturing her thought provoking emotions in her lyrics, Leddra continued to write when the mood took her until she had enough quality songs together to get herself into local venues to play them live.
With a quintessentially English voice, which is both pure and unique, it wasn’t long before she was being asked to play venues all over the country. At the same time Leddra spent as much time as possible teaching herself piano as well as learning to produce demos of her songs in a small home-studio. This work resulted in an invite to play Britain’s premier new music showcase – Manchester’s In The City Music Conference. The subsequent performance saw Music Week describe her as ‘filling a similar space to early Alanis Morissette and Joni Mitchell.’
Having worked on completing her debut album through 2009 with some of the best musical collaborators the UK music scene has to offer, Leddra released the album Telling Tales in December 2009. Featured on this collection of ‘pitch-perfect acoustic pop’ (The Independent) was Story, a track championed by Sir Terry Wogan throughout his final months presenting the Radio 2 Breakfast Show. Story was subsequently play-listed by BBC Radio 2. This period of time culminated in a televised live performance of the single on ITV’s This Morning. Follow up singles Summer Song and Edie achieved similar radio success, also playlisted by BBC Radio 2. Refusing to rest on her laurels, Leddra and her live band followed that media activity by heading out around the UK for two extremely successful nationwide tours as well as selling out renowned venues across the capital.
Summer 2011 saw Leddra personally invited to perform as main support to Tom Jones at three sold out concerts in London, Essex & Manchester. Playing to 35,000 people over the three nights, Leddra performed a set of songs, old and new, to a rapturous reception. In between these dates Leddra also, for the second year running, played at Signal FM’s live event in Stoke-on-Trent – performing Summer Song and also new EP track Where You Want Me (written with and produced by Jake Gosling (Ed Sheeran)) to an audience of 15,000 people. Outside of the UK, Leddra embarked on a series of dates in Holland and Belgium, performing to a sold out Paradiso crowd in Amsterdam before appearing on live TV in Belgium (TV OOST).
Leddra followed this success with a headline EP launch show at the London Bull & Gate in November of last year. The sold out show sparked plans for another full headline tour of the UK in March 2012 – Leddra played 8 sold out dates across the country including a packed out show at the London Borderline. Following a one week tour in Los Angeles, performing at some highly regarded and trendy venues, Leddra again hits the UK festival circuit this Summer.
Leddra also has a couple of exciting brand affiliations. An ambassador for Quiksilver Europe, Leddra has had the opportunity to perform at a number of high-profile surf and ski events across Europe, including the World Pro Tour in France. August 2012 see’s this continue with a performance at 2012′s X-Days Festival in Switzerland. In addition to live opportunities, Quiksilver are extremely supportive of Leddra’s development and regularly contribute to the project, for example creating bespoke artwork for all of Leddra’s releases to date.
Leddra has also recently become an ambassador for The Body Shop which has and will continue to see her involved in much of their activity moving through 2013 and beyond.
